Dear Class of 2021 and family members,
It is with tremendous joy that we look forward to welcoming you back to Trinity High School for your SENIOR year! I know that it is probably with mixed emotion that you look toward the year ahead. We understand that this won't be quite how you pictured the end of your high school experience, but we are so proud of the resiliance you have demonstrated and your continued committment to pursuing your goal of enrolling in college next year!
Over the past several months, I've spent time in conversation with students and parents, but also with college and university admissions officers. This uncertain time is impacting all of us, and colleges are no different. Please be assured that colleges are keenly aware of the challenges faced by their applicants and enrolling students. They will be sympathetic to your personal circumstances and those impacting us at Trinity. Colleges will continue to be comprehensive and holistic in their application review and they will consider students in the whole of their circumstances when they apply.
Please also be assured that you will be well supported in this process. I will continue to share information about what we know and provide regular updates throughout this senior year. Common Application Workshop:
Wednesday, August 12th
|
The Common Application opens on August 1st but students do not have to approach the application on their own. Help is available!
Seniors are invited to participate in a Common Application Workshop on Wednesday, August 12th from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. or 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. via Zoom. This is a great opportunity to become familiar with the Common Application, which is used by over 800 colleges and universities. Ms. Granholm will guide students step-by-step through the sections of the Common App and address commonly asked questions. Some aspects of the Common Application will require clarification and information from Ms. Granholm, so it's in the student's best interest to attend this workshop if possible.
Students are asked to email
Ms. Granholm
by Monday, August 10th, if interested in participating and indicate which meeting time she will attend. Ms. Granholm will then send instructions so that each student comes to the workshop prepared and with the materials needed to start completing the application. Additional application workshops will be held throughout the fall. Watch for more information when we return to school.

Submission of College Application Materials
|
Most college applications will open in the coming weeks. While more detailed information will be provided during the first week of school, students are responsible for requesting that their Trinity transcript and letters of recommendation are sent to the colleges to which they apply. Trinity submits these materials on the student's behalf. The student is responsible for submitting the application itself, any writing supplements, and if required/availeble, official test scores from ACT or SAT.
To make this request for documents, students must complete the Transcript Request Form (available online after September 1st) no later than two weeks ahead of each college application deadline. Upon receipt of this form, Mrs. Puttin, our new registrar, and Ms. Granholm, our college counselor, will prepare and submit documents including the transcript, school profile, secondary school report, and letters of recommendation.
The Students Services Office will begin processing transcript requests on Wednesday, September 16th, well ahead of even the earliest college application deadlines.

Status of ACT & SAT Testing
|
At this point, most seniors have not had the opportunity to take the ACT or SAT, due to mass cancellation of exams and closure of testing sites across the country. This has lead to confusion and stress, but please do not fret. Colleges and universities around the world are responding. At this time, more than half of all U.S. colleges and universities have decided to employ test-optional or test-blind applications for the coming cycle, and more schools are announcing changes to their requirements every day.
Students may try to register for either the ACT or SAT, but Ms. Granholm will work with each student to ensure she submits the strongest application possible, either with or without test scores.

Upcoming College Exploration Opportunities
Beginning in mid-September, Trinity will again host college and university information sessions. This year, due to enhanced safety precautions, these meetings will take place virtually. Students are encouraged to take advantage of these virtual visits by talking with the admissions representatives about their application, the admission process, scholarships, or other questions. The full college visit calendar will be posted on Naviance, and visits are promoted to students via email and in daily announcements.

- Strive Virtual College Exploration Library: Access nearly 400 recorded infromation sessions from colleges and universities around the world.
- IACAC Virtual College Exploration: Mark your calendar for five weeks of virtual college events from September 14 - October 22. More information to come!
- The Chicago Area Regional Representatives (CARR) put together a YouTube channel with numerous videos to provide advice about various components of the application process, such as essay writing or keeping track of application deadlines.
