Nov. 17, 2020
Dear Trocaire College Community,
As we approach Thanksgiving, we wanted to share a few important details about the remainder of the Fall 2020 semester. For additional information and links to past communications, visit the COVID-19 Response and Resources web page.
-
The last day of on-campus classes is Saturday, Nov. 21.
-
Week of Thanksgiving: There is a week-long Thanksgiving break for students with no classes from Nov. 23-Nov. 29, though work may be due through Moodle. Campus offices will be open and services available Monday, Nov. 23-midday Wednesday, Nov. 25. Buildings and offices will be closed Nov. 26-Nov.29.
-
Classes from Nov. 30-Dec. 21: All classes will be remote, including biology labs. Selected clinicals will be at their sites, conditions allowing, and some clinicals may have final assessments scheduled. If you have questions about your clinicals, clinical make-ups or simulations, please contact your course faculty or program director. The semester ends Dec. 21, and grades are due by Dec. 23.
The campus will be open and all offices will be providing services both in-person and remotely from Nov. 30-Dec. 23. Please consider making an appointment to see individuals in-person to make sure we can meet social distancing and capacity guidelines, and check campus building hours before planning a visit.
Watch your email for updates that might affect the ability of the campus to remain open. Even if the buildings must close, classes continue until Dec. 21.
With the Thanksgiving holiday approaching and the shift to remote-classes after Nov. 21, we wanted to take a few moments to remind you of things you can continue to do to keep yourself and others safe.
- Reduce your exposure to social gatherings. To the extent practical, refrain from coming into close contact with groups of people, particularly indoors where air circulation may be limited.
- Consider spending your Thanksgiving holiday with just your core group of family members.
- Monitor yourself daily for illness and the potential symptoms of COVD-19.
- If you have COVID-19 symptoms or have been in close contact with someone who is COVID-19 positive, stay home and keep yourself distant from others. Notify your healthcare provider and let your supervisor (employees) or academic program director (students) know about your situation.
- Wash your hands frequently. This is the best defense against surface-to-surface transmission.
- Keep a distance of 6 feet or greater between you and others, even if wearing a mask. Exposure to airborne virus-containing droplets has been reported to be the most common route of transmission of the COVID-19 virus.
We understand that being vigilant about all of these behaviors and procedures can be challenging and fatiguing, and we appreciate the Trocaire spirit of keeping each other safe as we keep ourselves safe.
The advent of effective COVID-19 vaccines seems to be on the near horizon – perhaps just a handful of months away. If everyone can continue to think about the safety of others and follow the recommended guidance on COVID-19, we can all look forward to 2021as the year that COVID-19 was conquered.
Stay safe and have a blessed holiday season.
Sincerely,
Dr. Richard T. Linn
