Dear Sophomore Parents,

This week, your daughter took a practice SAT administered by Compass Test Prep. Compass typically provides score reports fairly quickly, so you can expect to receive her results soon.

Early next semester, your daughter will take a practice ACT, also with Compass. After that assessment, Compass will send a detailed score report and a comparative analysis of her SAT and ACT results, including recommendations for which test—SAT or ACT—may be the best fit for her.

We like to think of these practice tests as “Good News” tests. They do not count for anything; instead, they provide valuable insight. The results—no matter what they are—are truly good news: your student will learn which test suits her best and where she may want to focus future study. Because sophomores are still early in their high school careers, there will be material on these tests that they haven’t yet learned. That’s perfectly normal! At this stage, the goal isn’t the score—it’s data gathering.

Even with some incomplete academic knowledge, Compass’s analysis measures how your daughter responds to the different question types on each test, helping identify which format plays to her strengths. We deeply value our partnership with Compass, as they provide excellent resources and meaningful data to support each student’s college preparation journey.

Looking ahead, as juniors, students and their families will participate in individual family meetings beginning in December of the junior year. Ideally, each student will take either an ACT or an SAT during the second semester of junior year.

Finally, once the Compass ACT results are available, Compass will host an evening webinar providing a deeper look into both exams—how they work, what they measure, and how to prepare effectively.

Thank you for your continued partnership as we help your daughters navigate their testing and college preparation process.

Sincerely,
