CERTIFICATION UPDATES AND REMINDERS

March 31 is the deadline for transitioning all packaging, advertising and websites using the old GFCO logo over to the new global certification mark. This date applies to the changeover at your packaging operations, and we understand that there may still be products on store shelves or in your distribution chain bearing the old mark after this date. GFCO may begin to contact companies continuing to use the old mark for potential trademark violations after March 31, unless we have specifically approved an extension for your company to use up old packaging. If you are in need of an extension, please contact gfco.branding@gluten.org. Also, be sure to submit examples of all logo use on new packaging, advertising and websites to gfco.branding@gluten.org for review prior to use or printing.

The Gluten Intolerance Group is chairing an AOAC Gluten & Food Allergens working group that has created a draft guidance document for qualitative gluten test method validation, and is prepared to begin work on a guidance document for method end users. At the AOAC Mid-Year meeting on March 17, manufacturers, laboratories and regulators gave presentations discussing their needs when using gluten and allergen test kits. This information will be used to help direct the content for an end user guidance document describing best practices for testing, verification of methods for matrices not covered in the initial validation, and other important topics. If you are an AOAC member and are interested in being part of this working group, or if you would like to learn more and consider being part of AOAC, you can read about the Gluten & Food Allergens working group here.
