Forest Hills School Levy - May 2, 2023

We are Citizens for Forest Hills, a ballot PAC of volunteers working to educate the community and drive a successful passage of the Forest Hills levy on the May 2nd ballot.

Our goal is to keep you informed through our newsletter and hope you will share facts you learn with your friends and fellow community members.

Have a specific concern? If you don’t see it addressed on our website or on social pages, email Citizens for Forest Hills and we will try to address them in our next weekly newsletter.

2023 Levy Quick Facts

WHAT IS THE LEVY: 6.9 mills combination operating (5.4 mills) & permanent improvement levy (1.5 mills). The cost to homeowners is $20.13/ month per $100,000 of property value.

WHY DO WE NEED A LEVY AGAIN? The current public school state funding model makes it necessary for districts like ours to pass a levy every 3-5 years to maintain the school operating budget. This levy will secure the funds needed to continue to deliver the excellent quality of education our community has come to expect, within our current school configuration.

How Do Our Taxes Compare to Neighboring Districts?

A COMMON MISCONCEPTION:

100% of your tax bill DOES NOT go to the schools.

WHAT % OF YOUR TAX BILL GOES TO FOREST HILLS?

  • 53.6% for Anderson Township Residents
  • 61.1% for Village of Newtown Residents

WHAT LOCAL TAX REVENUE DOES THE DISTRICT COLLECT?

  • 88% comes from residential taxes
  • 12% comes from business taxes

Because we are mostly a residential community with relatively low industry and business footprint, the tax burden lies heavily on local residents.

VOTE YES on May 2 to maintain our high performing district, a leading quality of our community. VOTE absentee ballot or EARLY in person voting beginning April 4.

Early voting will be crucial to the success of this levy!

More to come as we gather specifics on what cuts will need to be made if this levy doesn’t pass.
