IMPORTANT NEWS ABOUT YOUR MEMBERSHIP DECEMBER 31, 2025

Dear Silver Sneaker or Renew/Active Member,

You may be aware that the Town of Mansfield recently conducted a Parks and Recreation master planning initiative to strengthen operations, take care of assets, and set the stage for a financially sustainable future so that parks and recreation services can be counted on for generations. The final master plan included the recommendation to divest of insurance-supported membership options due to the financial loss and ongoing difficulties negotiating with insurance companies for a more just reimbursement. Regretfully, Silver Sneaker or Renew/Active memberships are not sustainable for the long-time success of Mansfield Parks and Recreation and the Mansfield Community Center.

Consistent with the master plan, on June 23 the Mansfield Town Council approved that MCC discontinue accepting insurance supported-memberships at the Mansfield Community Center (MCC), with a sunset date of December 31, 2025. At the MCC, this includes Silver Sneakers and Renew/Active memberships.

SPECIAL MEMBERSHIP OFFER

We realize how important this membership option has been to you, and we want you to continue enjoying the services at MCC. We also recognize the personal financial adjustment that may be required to continue past January 1, 2026 as a much-valued member of the Mansfield Community Center. In recognition of your commitment to MCC, we are pleased to offer you a 15% discount on an individual or family/household membership for up to six months, January 1-June 30, 2026 if you renew under one of these membership types.

An Alternative Memberships and Special Offer Information Session will be offered in the MCC Community Room on Thursday, July 24, 1:00 – 2:00 pm. This session is intended to help you learn more about the sunsetting of the Insurance Supported Memberships and new MCC membership options and special offers available to you.

The Town recognizes the value of insurance-supported memberships such as Silver Sneakers and Renew/Active to support improved health and wellness among older adults through free-of-charge access to MCC fitness facilities and select classes. However, with more than 40% of our total MCC members enrolled in these membership types, usage has come at a high cost to the Community Center and impacts other parks and recreation programs and services. Assessment of the cost effectiveness of Silver Sneaker and Renew/Active memberships for the Town of Mansfield has been diligently analyzed for several years. The program was carefully evaluated, along with the pricing structure, for all our services during the 2024 Mansfield Parks and Recreation Master Plan process facilitated by a nationally regarded Parks and Recreation firm with input from the community. For every $1.00 received for a traditional MCC membership, the insurance providers reimburse on average just 42 cents. Unfortunately, the revenues received from insurance carriers to provide these services are not adequately offsetting the costs.

Attached below is a member rate fee sheet. Please note that detailed information will follow soon that includes additional background details on insurance-supported membership, a special Mansfield resident senior discount, and a new program opportunity at the Mansfield Senior Center.

If you have questions prior to the upcoming informational session, please feel welcome to contact a Customer Service Representative, Justin Hicks, or Jay O’Keefe at 860-429-3015, extension #0.

We recognize that this change will affect the service that you have enjoyed and utilized. We sincerely appreciate your membership, and thank you for your support of the Mansfield Community Center.

Respectfully,
