Eco Corner by Jenn Cameron

Fremont Township is far from the nearest body of salt water, but it is worth noting that June 8th each year is World Oceans Day. How does our local area connect to the ocean, and why does it matter? Through multiple drainage corridors, streams and lakes, portions of Fremont Township contribute water runoff to the Indian Creek watershed, a sub-basin of the Des Plaines River.  The Des Plaines River joins the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal and then converges with the Kankakee River to form the Illinois River. The Illinois River flows into the Mississippi River and finally out into the Gulf of Mexico. Maintaining and protecting the best possible ecological health of our local waterways impacts the water quality of downstream systems like the world oceans.  World Oceans Day is but one calendar day in June, but healthier oceans are needed everyday. We can think and act locally to impact globally!

GRAND PRIX BIKE RACE, Monday, July 25, 2022

INTRODUCING THE MUNDELEIN GRAND PRIX

The Mundelein Grand Prix is a professional and amateur bicycle race as part of the nationally-renowned Intelligentsia Cup race series. Races are held in a "criterium" format, meaning that racers will compete together on a short circuit racecourse in Downtown Mundelein and complete as many laps as possible within the allotted time. Once one race finishes, another begins shortly thereafter. There will be almost nonstop racing from 10AM to 8PM. With tight turns and fast straightaways, races are always a thrilling spectacle! But this day is more than just about bike races: a beer garden, children's games, a community ride, live music, art activities, and more will make the Mundelein Grand Prix an event the whole community can enjoy.  More Information
