For Judges Handling Child Welfare Cases

June 12, 2023

Reminder: Judicial Recommendations for Trial Skills Training Waitlist

Due this Friday, June 16th

Judicial recommendations for the Children’s Commission participant waitlist for the upcoming Fall 2023 Trial Skills Training (TST) are due by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, June 16, 2023.

The Fall 2023 TST is scheduled for September 20-21, 2023 in San Antonio, and includes a mandatory virtual training session on September 13, 2023. The course offers approximately 17-20 live MCLE hours, including ethics hours, and up to 3 self-study MCLE hours.

Waitlist candidates are not guaranteed a spot in the September 2023 Trial Skills Training, but will commit to attending if an opening becomes available up to one week prior to the in-person portion of the training. Attorneys nominated for the waitlist should have a desire to improve their litigation skills and either currently represent the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) or actively be accepting court appointments on a child welfare docket. Prior TST participants that completed an all-virtual training during the pandemic are eligible for nomination to participate in this in-person training.

Judges who would like to recommend attorneys from their jurisdiction for this hands-on opportunity may do so by completing the 4-question nomination form below.
