Trauma-Informed Texas Website is Live!
TraumaInformedTexas.com now hosts the various resources created by the Statewide Collaborative on Trauma-Informed Care (SCTIC) and other stakeholders. The webpage currently includes resources on trauma-informed trainings and the newly adopted definitions of “trauma” and “trauma-informed” under the Texas Administrative Code. The webpage will be updated on an ongoing basis as resources become available. Check back often for updates!
Archived Webinar Now Available – “Enhancing Support for Foster Alumni: Financial Aid, the Foster Care Tuition Waiver, & Campus Support”
The Resources for Higher Education Workgroup of the Texas Children's Commission hosted a webinar for all those engaged in helping young adults with lived experience in foster care succeed in higher education. The webinar includes a presentation and panel discussion about the state tuition and fee waiver and federal Education and Training Voucher (ETV) as well as considerations for admissions and financial aid applications and collaborative campus support programs. Presenters include Dr. Javier Flores (Angelo State University), Todd Serpico (Dept. of Family & Protective Services), Brandi Purswell (Baptist Child & Family Services), Edward Kerestly (Angelo State University), Belinda Peña (Austin Community College), and Joseph Pettibon (Texas A&M University).
The Supreme Court of Texas Children’s Commission hosted the Round Table on Mediation in Child Protection Cases on February 22, 2019 in Austin, Texas. Round Table participants included mediators, attorneys, judicial leaders, subject matter experts, and policymakers from across the state. Attendees participated in a moderated discussion of the issues affecting mediation in child protection cases in Texas with the goal of advancing ideas that would increase the effectiveness of mediation as a tool to improve outcomes for children and families. The report summarizes the Round Table discussion on the benefits and challenges of implementing mediation in child protection cases throughout Texas and how mediation services can be improved to make them more fair, accessible, and effective.
