Through the federal Court Improvement Program, the Supreme Court of Texas Children’s Commission receives funds aimed at strengthening the legal and judicial response in child welfare cases including supporting various local and statewide projects, developing judicial and attorney training, and identifying technology solutions. Every year, the Children’s Commission offers grant opportunities to encourage innovation and continued systemic improvement.
On June 1, 2021, the Children’ Commission opened the Fiscal Year 2022 Court Improvement Program grant applications. This year, there are two grant opportunities and an overview is included below.
FY 2022 Court Improvement Grant - Cost Sharing Requirement 25%
- To submit an application for funding under this grant, grant activities must demonstrably promote safety, permanency, or well-being for children and families and must fit into one or more of three strategic categories: Court Function Improvement; Capacity Building; or Systemic Reform. COVID-19 Response Grant Application – Cost Sharing Requirement 0%
- On December 27, 2020, P.L. 116-260, the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021 was enacted into law. This law included supplemental awards to address needs stemming from the COVID-19 public health emergency to ensure that the safety, permanence, and well-being needs of children are met in a timely and complete manner.
- To submit an application for funding under this grant, the proposed use of funds in the grant activities may include technology investments; training for judges, attorneys, and caseworkers on remote hearings; programs to help families address aspects of the case plan to avoid delays that are a direct result of COVID-19; and other purposes to assist courts, court personnel, and staff needs stemming from the COVID-19 public health emergency.
