Resource Letter:
For Judges and Attorneys Handling Child Protective Services Cases
November 4, 2021
Spring 2022 Trial Skills Training Applications Due Next Friday, November 12, 2021
Designed for less experienced attorneys handling CPS cases who want to improve their litigation skills, the Children’s Commission’s Spring 2022 Trial Skills Training will occur virtually over Zoom on March 30 and April 6 - 7, 2022. The training is limited to 21 attorneys, evenly divided into three practice groups comprised of seven attorneys who represent DFPS, seven parents’ attorneys, and seven children’s attorneys.

This unique program is based on a fictional CPS fact pattern with a complete mock case file covering all Texas-specific statutory hearings building up to final trial. The training breaks down the teaching of litigation skills by lecturing, demonstrating, strategizing, and practicing in all areas of trial for both in-person and virtual courtroom practice.

The application deadline is midnight on Friday, November 12, 2021. The application can be accessed at the following link: Trial Skills Training Application: Spring 2022.
