The Children’s Commission is offering up to 10 reimbursement scholarships to qualified attorneys to attend one of the American Bar Association (ABA) Center on Children and the Law’s national conferences: the Access to Justice for Children and Families Conference on April 5-6, 2022, or the National Parent Representation Conference on April 7-8, 2022. Both conferences will be held in-person in Tyson’s Corner, Virginia. More information about the conferences is available on the ABA website.
To meet the criteria for a scholarship, attorney applicants must currently represent the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) or take appointments on a child welfare docket and be in good standing with the State Bar of Texas and with their appointing or presiding judge. The scholarship will take the form of reimbursement of up to $1,250 for the conference registration fee and eligible conference-related travel expenses to attend one of the national conferences.
All applicants must also commit to timely completion of a post-event survey from the Children’s Commission. Applicants who meet all the criteria will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis for a scholarship, until all ten spots are filled. Early applications are strongly encouraged due to the limited number of scholarships.
Please note, the application period for this scholarship opportunity will close at midnight on Friday, January 21, 2022.
