New Texas CASA Resources and Upcoming Training
Please see the announcements below from Texas CASA:
First, Texas CASA has a webinar coming up on June 23rd at 12:30 p.m. entitled Supporting Connections & Community During COVID-19, featuring speakers Dr. Bruce Perry, M.D., Ph.D., renowned best-selling author, leading trauma expert and founder of The Neurosequential Model Network; Kevin Campbell, international permanency expert and model author of Family Finding; and Texas CASA CEO Vicki Spriggs. This will be a 90-minute facilitated conversation exploring ways the CASA community and others working within the child welfare field can support children, parents and families to be connected and have a sense of community during COVID-19. Considerations of developmental needs and trauma will also be discussed. Registration is required, and registrants are asked to submit questions in advance that will be used to help guide the discussion. Please use this link to register.
Second, Texas CASA released a video for the legal community on Collaborative Family Engagement (CFE). It provides an overview of CFE and also has specific guidance on how judges and attorneys for both parents and children can support the process. Please share with any interested parties! The current plan is to have CFE statewide in all local CASA programs by 2023.
Finally, Texas CASA also just released a video entitled What is a Court Appointed Special Advocate? a 3-minute animated video for the general public. It explains the role of a Court Appointed Special Advocate and shows how CASA works with children and families involved in the system at different parts of a case. The video is available in both English and Spanish, with optional subtitles.
