Resource Letter for Judges and Attorneys Handling Cases Involving Mental Health and IDD

Aligning Health and Safety Webinar and Policy Tool


The Council of State Governments (CSG) and the U.S. Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) are jointly launching a new initiative to support state efforts to harness local knowledge and transform public health and safety systems. They are hosting a webinar tomorrow March 7 at 2:00 p.m. CST. JCMH Executive Director Kristi Taylor is among the presenters for this event, which will launch the Aligning Health and Safety State Policy Tool, focusing on collaboration, data collection and information sharing, and aligning funding. Criminal and Community Justice Grant Solicitations and Webinar


BJA announced the Justice and Mental Health Collaboration Program for 2024. Creating or expanding mental health courts is a priority area, and applications are solicited in both Criminal Justice System Collaboration and Community Justice and Collaboration categories. BJA is hosting a webinar on Tuesday, March 19 at 1:00 p.m. CDT. Register here for the webinar, and additional information on this solicitation is available here.

 

Additionally, AllRise maintains a Federal Grants website with information on the soliciting agency, eligibility, grant types and amounts, and deadlines, and is co-hosting a webinar with the National Treatment Court Resource Center on March 13 at 1:00 CDT on preparing a competitive grant proposal narrative and budget for the Adult Treatment Court Program solicitation.

 

Assisted Outpatient Treatment (AOT) Grant Solicitation


The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has announced a Notice of Funding Opportunity for implementing multi-disciplinary AOT programs with courts, community partners, and other entities to support community-based treatment for adults who meet AOT criteria. Texas Lawyers’ Assistance Program Free CLE


The Texas Lawyers’ Assistance Program and criminal defense attorney Terry Bentley Hill are presenting a 1-hour discussion on “The Impact of Depression and Suicide on the Legal Profession” on March 27 at 12:00 p.m. CDT at this Zoom link. TLAP also offers the free CLE (eligible for ethics credit) “Just Ask: How We Must Stop Minding Our Own Business in the Legal World (Suicide and Depression Prevention Essentials), available here.
