Youth Suicide Prevention Webinar

The National Center for State Courts (NCSC) is presenting a webinar entitled, “What Courts Need to Know About Youth Suicide Prevention,” on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Central Time.


The webinar will feature a panel of national experts, including:

  • Dr. Chris Drapeau, Executive Director of Prevention, Suicide Prevention, and Crisis Response, Indiana Family and Social Services Administration
  • Judge Ginger Lerner-Wren, 17th Judicial Circuit, Broward County, Florida
  • Dr. Richard McKeon, Chief, Suicide Prevention Branch, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration
  • Tiffany Russell, Chief of Crisis and Justice Partnerships, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration


The webinar will provide concrete suicide prevention strategies for courts, as well as information about 988, the new National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, and the Mobile Response and Stabilization Services. For more information and to register, click here.

 

Proposed Rule on the Use of Restraints in Juvenile Court

On November 30, 2022, the Supreme Court of Texas invited public comment on several rules, including the proposed Rule of Judicial Administration 17 related to the use of restraints in juvenile court, pursuant to Texas Government Code § 22.0135(b). Public comment should be submitted in writing to [email protected] by May 1, 2023.


The Court will issue and order finalizing the proposed rules after the close of the comment period. The Court may change the rules in response to public comments. The Court expects the rules to take effect on June 1, 2023.
