The Children’s Commission will host a webinar on Friday, May 29, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. entitled “Representing Children in Child Welfare Cases.” This is the first session in a three-part webinar series on legal representation for children, parents, and the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.


Emily Miller, Attorney and Mediator in Brownwood, and Dylan Moench, Chief Counsel of the Travis County Office of Child Representation in Austin, will share best practices for representing children throughout a child welfare case. The presentation will cover fulfilling legal requirements, providing effective client communication and support, and navigating complex courtroom dynamics.


MCLE credit is pending. This presentation will be archived, and materials will be available on the Children’s Commission website following the live webinar.

Representing Deaf Clients in Child Welfare Cases

A recording of the recent Children’s Commission webinar entitled “Representing Deaf Clients in Child Welfare Cases” is now available on the Children’s Commission On-Demand Training and MCLE webpage.


Panelists shared best practices for representing deaf clients throughout a child welfare case, including legal requirements, utilizing interpreters, effective client communication and support, and courtroom dynamics.


The course is approved for 1.25 hours of MCLE by the State Bar of Texas and the Texas Board of Legal Specialization for 1.25 hours of certification and recertification continuing legal education requirements for attorneys and paralegals in the specialty fields of Child Welfare Law and Family Law.
