September is National Kinship Care Month which highlights the critical role that relatives and other kin play in promoting safety and stability for children. Kinship caregivers step in—often unexpectedly—to support children and maintain connections to family and community. This month serves as an opportunity to honor their dedication, raise awareness of the unique challenges they face, and recognize the importance of providing services and support for kinship caregivers.
To help shine the spotlight on kinship care, the Children’s Commission will host a webinar on Monday, September 28, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m., entitled “Caregivers in Court—Notice and Engagement.” The webinar will address the legal framework governing caregiver notice and engagement; share practical insights from the bench, bar, and caregiver perspectives; and explore effective approaches to engaging caregivers in child welfare proceedings.
