Texas CASA Videos on Roles in Child Welfare Cases

Texas CASA partnered with the Children’s Commission to develop new resources to explain the role of the professionals involved in a child welfare case. The following five handouts and accompanying videos are available in both English and Spanish, and can be used as a set or individually:   

• The Judge
• The Guardian ad Litem or CASA Volunteer
• The Attorney ad Litem
• The Parent’s Attorney
• The Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) Attorney

The target audience for these resources are individuals who are involved with the child welfare system, including parents, children, youth, and kinship caregivers.   

The resources may be publicly accessed on the Texas CASA website, and both the English and Spanish versions of the video may also be found on the Texas CASA YouTube channel. 

Texas Legal Services Center Family Helpline CPS and Custody Videos

The Texas Legal Services Center Family Helpline developed a video series which helps explain legal issues in family law and child welfare cases. The series includes five videos related to child welfare law issues including:

• Conservatorship Basics
• Child Safety
• Information for Parents
• Information for Non-parent
• An Overview of Interacting with DFPS 

These videos address the frequently asked questions received by the Family Helpline in an easy-to-understand format and they are available on the Texas Law Help website.
