For Judges and Attorneys Handling Child Welfare Cases

May 4, 2023

Attorney Scholarships for

TexasBarCLE's Child Abuse and Neglect Workshop

The 2023 TexasBarCLE Advanced Family Law one-day Child Abuse and Neglect (CAN) Workshop will be held live on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, as an in-person event in San Antonio, Texas, with one virtual webcast replay on September 22, and two video replays which will take place in Dallas on September 22 and in South Padre Island in October 2023. For more information about the training and dates, please see the CAN Workshop Brochure.

The Children’s Commission is offering 100 registration scholarships to qualified attorneys to attend the 2023 CAN Workshop on one of the dates listed above. The scholarship will take the form of waived registration fees ($125) to attend the CAN Workshop only and not the full Advanced Family Law Course. Please note, the Children’s Commission is not able to reimburse attorneys who pay the State Bar of Texas directly for registration to attend the CAN Workshop.

To meet the criteria for a scholarship, attorney applicants must currently represent the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) or currently receive court appointments on a child welfare docket and be in good standing with the State Bar of Texas and with their primary or appointing judge. All scholarship recipients must also commit to timely completion of a post-event survey from the Children’s Commission. Preference may be given to attorneys who have not received scholarships from the Children’s Commission within the past two years and applicants who meet all the criteria will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis.

For more information about the scholarship and to submit an application, please visit the Attorney Scholarships webpage. The scholarship application period for the CAN Workshop will close at midnight on Friday, May 26, 2023.

Please note that the registration fee for the CAN Workshop is waived for Texas judges. Judges wishing to attend the CAN Workshop should contact TexasBarCLE directly.
