The Children’s Commission will host a webinar on Friday, July 31, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. entitled “Representing DFPS in Child Welfare Cases.” This is the third session in a three-part webinar series on legal representation for children, parents, and the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS).


Tiffany Reedy, Managing Counsel for the Child Protective Services and Disability & Elder Law Divisions of the Harris County Attorney’s Office in Houston, Texas, and Deborah Hinds, Child Protective Services Chief/Assistant County Attorney, Parker County in Weatherford, Texas will share best practices for representing DFPS throughout a child welfare case. The presentation will include a discussion on fulfilling legal requirements, maintaining effective client communication, and advocating on behalf of DFPS in court proceedings.

The Children’s Commission will host a webinar on Monday, June 15, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. entitled “Representing Parents in Child Welfare Cases.” This is the second session in a three-part webinar series on legal representation for children, parents, and the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.

 

Linda Aleckner, Attorney at the Aleckner Law Firm, PLLC, in Dallas, Texas, and Julliana Reyes, Co-founder and Attorney at the Bailey & Reyes Law Firm in Beaumont, Texas, will share best practices for representing parents throughout a child welfare case. The presentation will include a discussion on fulfilling legal requirements, providing effective client communication and support, and navigating complex courtroom dynamics.

A recording of the recent Children’s Commission webinar entitled “Representing Children in Child Welfare Cases” is now available on the Children's Commission On-Demand Training and MCLE webpage.


Panelists shared best practices for representing children throughout a child welfare case, including legal requirements, providing effective client communication and support, and navigating complex courtroom dynamics.



The course was approved for 1.25 hours of MCLE by the State Bar of Texas. This course was approved by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization for 1.25 hours of certification and recertification continuing legal education requirements for attorneys and paralegals in the specialty field of Child Welfare Law.
