September is National Kinship Care Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the critical role that relatives and other kin play in providing safe, loving, and stable homes for children. Kinship caregivers not only support children and families but also maintain family connections and community ties. This month serves as an opportunity to honor their dedication, raise awareness of the unique challenges they face, and highlight the importance of supporting kinship families.
To help shine the spotlight on kinship care, the Children’s Commission will host a webinar on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. entitled “Ties that Bind—Supporting Kinship Care.” The webinar will address unique considerations for informal and formal kinship caregivers, such as identifying legal, financial, and mental health barriers; improving communication; navigating safety plans; bridging service gaps; and accessing resources.
