Open Scholarship Opportunities

The Children's Commission provides judges and attorneys with opportunities to attend and/or develop child welfare-related trainings. Please see below for more information.

Attorney Scholarship Requests

NEW! The Children’s Commission now offers assistance to attorneys who practice civil child welfare law in Texas and need financial support to attend recognized child welfare-related trainings. The scholarship provides reimbursement for training registration fees. This opportunity is designed for training courses that are not already covered by existing Commission scholarships for attorneys (i.e., State Bar of Texas Child Protection Law Section Course).

Judicial Scholarship Requests

The Children’s Commission offers assistance to judges who handle civil child welfare cases in Texas and need financial support to attend recognized child welfare-related trainings. The scholarship covers reimbursement for conference registration fees. This opportunity is designed for training courses that are not already covered by existing Commission scholarships for judges (i.e., NCJFCJ conferences).

Legal Training Support

The Children’s Commission provides technical assistance and support for legal trainings related to child welfare matters. Support for a proposed community, county, or regional training may include, but is not limited to:



  • developing a training agenda,
  • identifying speakers,
  • hosting a webinar on Zoom,
  • identifying a venue, and/or
  • obtaining MCLE credit.


Additionally, financial assistance is available and may include costs related to speaker, venue, or MCLE fees.


Applications for legal training support must demonstrably relate to improving the safety, permanency, or well-being of children and families involved with the child welfare system and must identify a judicial sponsor.
