New Court-Attorney Requirement

Pursuant to SB 2120 of the 88th Texas Regular Legislative Session, attorneys who accept court appointments to represent children and/or parents in child welfare cases are now required to report the percentage of their practice time spent on those cases to the Texas Indigent Defense Commission (TIDC). The Texas Code of Criminal Procedure and Texas Family Code require attorneys to report this information by October 15, 2023 for the previous fiscal year covering the time period from October 1,2022 to September 30,2023.

TIDC has updated its data collection website to include reporting on child welfare cases, in addition to criminal and juvenile cases. Detailed reporting instructions and the new online Attorney Reporting Form are available online.
