February 9, 2024

Attorney Scholarships to TexasBarCLE's 101 and Advanced Child Protection Law Course

TexasBarCLE and the Child Protection Law Section of the State Bar of Texas will host the 6th Annual Advanced Child Protection Law Course (Advanced Course) on April 4-5, 2024, in Dallas. A 3-hour Child Protection Law 101 Course (101 Course) will also be offered as a pre-conference training on the morning of April 4th. Additionally, both the 101 Course and the Advanced Course will be offered via webcast replay on May 9-10, 2024. For more information, please see the course brochure.

The Children’s Commission is offering separate registration scholarships to attorneys to attend the 101 Course and/or the Advanced Course. To meet the criteria for either scholarship, applicants must:

  • currently represent the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) or take court appointments on a child welfare docket, and
  • be in good standing with the State Bar of Texas and with their appointing or presiding judge.

In addition to the above criteria, applicants for the 101 Course must also be new to the practice of child welfare law, with no more than 5 years of experience. Preference for scholarships to attend either course may be given to attorneys who have not received a scholarship from the Children’s Commission in the past two years.

The scholarship will take the form of waived registration fees to attend the live course(s) in Dallas or the webcast replay(s). The Children’s Commission will work with the State Bar to register scholarship awardees directly for the 101 Course and the Advanced Course. The Children’s Commission is not able to reimburse attorneys who pay the State Bar of Texas directly for either course.

All scholarship recipients must commit to timely completion of a post-event survey from the Children’s Commission. Applicants who meet all the criteria will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis for a scholarship. For more information and to submit an application, please click the button below.
