The State Bar of Texas, in collaboration with the Appellate Section of the State Bar, will host the Civil Appellate Practice 101 course in Austin on September 3, 2025, and via Webcast Replay on October 8, 2025. The Children’s Commission is offering a limited number of registration reimbursement scholarships to attorneys to attend either the Civil Appellate Practice 101 live training or the Webcast Replay. To meet the criteria for the scholarship, applicants must:

• currently represent the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) or take court appointments on a child welfare docket,
• express an interest in handling child welfare appeals, 
• be in good standing with the State Bar of Texas and with their primary or appointing judge, and
• agree to complete a post-event survey from the Children’s Commission, if awarded a scholarship.

In addition to the above criteria, preference may be given to attorneys who have not received a scholarship from the Children’s Commission in the past 2 years.

Applicants who meet all the criteria will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis for a scholarship. For more information and to submit an application, please visit the Children's Commission Scholarships webpage.
