Prayer Vigil Tonight at 7 p.m.

A Prayer for Social Justice
Almighty God, who created us in your own image: Grant us grace fearlessly to contend against evil and to make no peace with oppression; and, that we may reverently use our freedom, help us to employ it in the maintenance of justice in our communities and among the nations, to the glory of your holy Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen

Talking About Race and Social Justice with Children and Teens
Why should we be talking about race? As Christians we are called to create Beloved Community. Jesus' command to us was to Love God and to love your neighbor as yourself. In our Baptismal Covenant we commit ourselves to strive for justice and peace among all people and to respect the dignity of every human being. We have far to go, and awareness and understanding are the first steps in change. The resource at the link below provides support to families who want to initiate and deepen conversations about race and social justice.
We believe that care of creation is integral to God’s dream. As the Church celebrates the 50 days of Easter and new life, we also recognize Earth Day on Thursday, April 22. This is a time to give thanks for creation and recommit to ways of strengthening our stewardship of Earth, our island home.
You are encouraged to participate in this year’s diocesan Earth Day 2021 Challenge. Click on the picture to download the flyer, or click here to learn more.

Worship at St. Andrew’s Update
The vestry discussed reopening plans this week. Our target is to offer a 10:00 am indoor worship service in the sanctuary this summer. We will use the precautions prepared by our task force, and that service will be livestreamed. Our staff and leadership are hoping and planning for a full return in September, with added safety precautions, pursuant to diocesan guidelines. In the meantime, we are preparing some special opportunities to gather together and celebrate our life in Christ.

Youth Confirmation is Coming
The rite of Confirmation is an affirmation of one’s faith and a claiming of baptism. Preparation for youth confirmation allows teens to deepen their discipleship, to ask hard questions, to wrestle with their faith, and to explore their own lives in Christ in a safe space. It offers the church an opportunity to support adolescents in their faith journeys. Young people are traditionally confirmed when they are in the 8th grade or older. If you are interested in confirmation in fall 2021/spring 2022, please email Rev. Ginny Inman at ginny@standrewsgso.org.

Livestream Team Volunteers Needed!
After a few starts and stops, we hope to begin livestreaming our worship services again this spring with our new video equipment. This will allow us to welcome parishioners back for in-person worship when the time comes, and continue to provide a quality online experience. We need volunteers to help run this on Sunday mornings. The only requirements are a willingness to learn! Our videographer, Robin Hardman, will provide training and detailed instructions. If you are interested, please contact him at robin@standrewsgso.org.

This will save both you and the church in costs and fees.

New Life - Yanceyville Place Apartments
In this season of Easter, the Church of the Holy Spirit and Mills Construction are proposing an affordable apartment development in northeast Greensboro. You can read about it at http://bit.ly/Yanceyv. One fourth of the apartments will rent from $273 for a one bedroom to $384 for a three bedroom, with rents for households with somewhat higher income levels ranging from $502 to $875. Tenants will be connected with supportive services to gain stability, especially those moving from homelessness and those with disabilities. The apartments will be high quality construction and energy efficient, with a community center and beautiful woods and stream preserved for environmental learning.
Please contact your city council member to voice your support for this work. The city council votes on May 4. Contact Beth McKee Huger with questions, at bethmckeehuger@outlook.com.
