Dear LFHS Seniors and Parents/Guardians,

As we navigate the uncertainties of our educational landscape, we have continued to monitor shifts in state guidance and the impact on end-of-the-year plans. With our seniors counting down to their last day, commencement activities have been at the forefront of our thoughts and planning.

On May 2nd, the Illinois Dept. of Public Health (IDPH) and the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) issued updated joint guidance for schools regarding commencement activities. Fortunately, this expands our options for celebrating our seniors.

As a result of the new guidance as well as the value we place on celebrating the collective and individual accomplishments of our seniors—and doing so before they move on to begin their next chapter in life—we have shifted our plans.

  • On June 6th, we will host a drive-thru commencement at LFHS (East Campus).
  • Prior to coming to campus, graduation speeches and music will be live-streamed for your family to view together in the comfort of your homes.
  • We will then proceed to engage an alpha-split car processional to campus. Students will be asked to arrive dressed in caps and gowns. While immediate family members watch from the car, students will have their name announced to walk across the stage, receive their diploma, and will pose for a professional photograph.
  • This portion of the ceremony will also be live streamed to provide an opportunity for the entire school community to celebrate with us.

  • Virtual Graduation
  • We will post a virtual graduation keepsake video approximately two weeks following the commencement. The video will include graduation speeches, music, and other tributes to the Class of 2020.

We will provide detailed information for seniors and their families regarding our June 6th commencement during the week of May 25th.

While nothing could ever replace our traditional commencement ceremony, we are excited about the opportunity to see all of our seniors again, celebrate their accomplishments at LFHS, and personally give each student their diploma. We will be in touch with additional information and appreciate your ongoing understanding as we plan for such an important life experience.

Sincerely,

Dr. Chala Holland
LFHS Principal
