Maryland Tax Connect: What You Need to Know

The Comptroller of Maryland is moving individual taxpayers to a new online portal called Maryland Tax Connect, beginning September 1, 2026.

Maryland Tax Connect will replace iFile and Maryland’s current online bill-payment system. The new portal will allow taxpayers to:

  • File Maryland individual income tax returns
  • Make tax payments
  • Check refund status
  • View account balances and notices
  • Manage Maryland tax matters in one secure location

Important Transition Dates

What You Should Do

Plan ahead to avoid delays. Whenever possible, complete Maryland tax payments, filings, refund-status checks, and account research before the applicable transition deadlines.

Be sure to save copies of all:

  • Confirmation pages
  • Proof of payment
  • Filing records
  • Correspondence from the Comptroller of Maryland

Filing During the Transition

Tax returns may still be electronically filed through tax software or a tax professional during the transition. However, processing may be delayed until after September 1.

Maryland has also stated that penalties will not be assessed when a filing or payment could not be completed because its due date fell within the system outage period.

Need Assistance?

We have attached a guide summarizing the transition dates and what taxpayers should expect. Additional information is also available through the Comptroller of Maryland’s Maryland Tax Connect Information Hub.

Please contact our office if you have questions about an upcoming Maryland filing, payment, or estimated tax obligation.

A Note for Business Clients:

Using Maryland Tax Connect

This transition primarily affects individual taxpayers. Businesses already using Maryland Tax Connect should continue using the existing portal for filing and payments.

However, business users may experience temporary disruptions to certain filing and payment services between July 29 and August 31, 2026, while Maryland completes its tax-system transition. We recommend completing any time-sensitive filings or payments early whenever possible and saving all confirmation records.
