Important Middle School Updates for the 2023-2024 School Year

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer. We are quickly approaching the new school year and I would like to send some information to keep returning families informed of any changes while welcoming new families to our school procedures.

School Supplies

If you ordered a school supply box, it will be delivered directly to Lakehill. Supply boxes are still available for purchase - please contact Jen Dickerson at jdickerson@lakehillprep.org to order. 5th-8th grade supply boxes can be picked up from the cafeteria and carpool tags/schedules will be available in front of the Upper School Library on both Monday, 8/21, and Tuesday, 8/22 between 9 am -1 pm.

5th and 6th grade only - subject-specific supplies will be removed from the supply boxes prior to pickup and handed out by teachers on the first day of school. Supplies needed for all subjects will remain in their boxes for pickup. If you did not purchase a school supply box from Lakehill, please drop off your supplies in a labeled box at the front desk by Wednesday, 8/16. Students who have not ordered a box or dropped off supplies by this date will have a supply box reserved for them and charged to their account.

If there are extenuating circumstances or concerns regarding supply box ordering or drop-off, please feel free to email me. Our goal in this process is to ensure that all of our students are equally prepared to start the school year with everything they need to be successful.

Lockers

All MS lockers are located on the 2nd floor of the school. It would be helpful for your child to practice opening a combination lock if they have never used one before.

Orientation Information

Daily Schedule

Morning Drop off - starts at 7:30 am and students will stay in the cafeteria until 7:50 am. Please enter through the Westlake entrance and continue straight down the driveway. We recommend that students arrive by 7:50 am to ensure that they have enough time to get ready for class.

Open Period - a 20-25 minute break in the morning where students can visit with a teacher for help, work silently in the library, or go outside to play. Snacks are permitted on the picnic benches outside or in classrooms with teacher approval.

Packing up - students should pack up and take what they need to their last class every day to ensure that carpool can begin promptly.

Carpool - starts at 3:40 pm. Please enter through the Westlake entrance and turn left after the sports court. For students who have siblings in multiple divisions, parents can choose to go through each carpool or pick up all children at the latest carpool. Students picked up after 4:00 pm will automatically be signed into our After School Care program. All students must be picked up from campus by 5:30 pm.

Snacks, Lunch, and Deliveries

You are welcome to drop off a special treat to celebrate your child's birthday, provided that there is enough for the entire class to share. We ask that lunch drop-offs occur only for birthdays or emergencies. We discourage deliveries of homework, supplies, etc. as we strive to encourage independence and responsibility in our middle schoolers. All deliveries will be left at the front desk for the receptionist to deliver to your child.

Digital Devices

Cellphones, laptops, tablets, etc. are not permitted at any point during the school day unless the student is being supervised by a teacher for classroom use. Smartwatches are permitted but may only be used for timekeeping. Parents should call the school to relay messages to their child when needed.

Dress Code

There have been some questions regarding the dress code. The policy has not changed, but wording has been clarified. Please view the updated dress code by clicking on the following button.
