The Brick Church School recently shared with CHN that small, colorful capsules, used to sell illegal drugs, have been spotted by parents and caregivers in a local playground in Central Park. These capsules, referred to as “Trash Cans,” often contain fentanyl.

A Carnegie Hill resident reported to CHN that they saw vials and syringes “concentrated in one area by 102nd street on the path that leads to the Conservancy Gardens from the East Meadow by Mount Sinai, also scattered throughout the park, and on the sidewalk by the East 97th entrance.

Carnegie Hill Neighbors has been in direct contact with Detective Anthony V. Nuccio, of the 19th Precinct’s Crime Prevention. He has also shared the issue with Oliver Matos at the 23rd Precinct and Luis Moreira at the Central Park Precinct.

Detective Nuccio advises the following:

  • Most importantly, DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING
  • If you see drug use in person or dangerous needles or capsules, call 911 immediately and be as specific as possible about what you see and where you are.
