Our reduced hours reflect our need to operate the Bargain Box store in the most efficient manner possible during this challenging economic time, while still continuing to serve those who need help in our community. They now need the services we have provided for over 20 years more than ever.
We are not just the "Best Boutique Thrift Store" in Wilmington
but we are also a Community Outreach Ministry.
Here are some of the many other ways we serve our community:
  • Bargain Bucks (free shopping vouchers) are distributed annually to 30 community social service agencies such as NHC Schools (23 schools), Help Hub, NHC Health Dept. and 26 other non-profit agencies, including Good Shepherd Ministry. $8-10,000 in Bargain Bucks were redeemed in the store every year prior to the pandemic.
Photos above show agency representatives that
received Bargain Bucks for their clients.
  •  Free Bins Outside – Clean and usable items we cannot sell in the store are available to anyone during store operating hours and include clothing, shoes, housewares and linens.
The free bin is filled every day.
Many people use the free bin regularly.
Families and individuals
check the bins daily.
  • Excess donations suitable for other situations or climates go to Episcopal Farm Workers in Newton Grove and Crossnore Children’s Home and School in the mountains of NC, as well as other nonprofits.
Volunteers get items to other non-profit agencies in North Carolina.
  • We provide training and supervision for Community Service workers and students of Miller-Motte College.
  • We currently provide employment for a dedicated staff of four, including an employee, Calandra Howard, who has been a part of our store family for nearly 19 years.

  • We have donated over $56,000 over the years to Good Shepherd Ministry and distributed over $45,000 in mini-grants to other
non-profit agencies.

As part of our ongoing effort to maximize sales, especially during a pandemic, we have utilized social media and the expanding trend of online shopping to sell high-end items on Etsy, eBay, and Vestiaire Collective. We feature brand new items with tags sold in the store, on Facebook, Market Place, and our website.
The good news on the horizon:
  •  Vaccines are finally here
  •  Movies are scheduled to be filmed in Wilmington
  •  More and more people are aware of how important it is to support local small businesses
  • When the economy is able to re-open there will be a pent-up desire to dress up, be with friends and go out on the town

We are so grateful for your help,
donations and faithful support of the Bargain Box.
We look forward to a brighter future together.
We have great selections for the entire family!
All donated items are stored for 24 hrs. prior to sorting.
Clothing items are steamed before they go
into the store and are then ready for
you to safely purchase.
(FYI- we have always steamed clothing prior to going out in the store)
