GVHS News Release

New Innovation, Programs and Clarification of show support and points qualifying shows.

Due to feedback and discussion with members the GVHS has developed an expanded award and show points program beginning in 2020. New awards have been added for Driving, W/T, and W/T/C. There is a new list of recognized classes. New rules to qualify to enter the program are developed based on the needs of owners, new owners, and potential owners.  You can review and download a document with this information from the website, or contact the GVHS office.

There is also an initiative in the works for a program to recognize horses that achieve long term goals within the GVHS Show points program.

There is development and updating of the GVHS registry software in process. This is necessary to keep up with technology and the growth of the GVHS. Part of this development plan is to include the ability to display the show points by year for each horse along with other achievements so that information can be viewed on the online registry. This will provide even more information for those researching a particular horse or bloodline.

The GVHS is a horse registry for Gypsy Vanner Horses. It is not a show organization. The GVHS provides a show points program to recognize registered Gypsy Vanner Horses, and to help the GVHS members promote the breed. Although a small percentage of the total of registered Gypsy Vanners and owners show, the GVHS has committed a large budget and a lot of time and man hours creating, maintaining and promoting a show program for its members and registered horses.

The following is to help clear up some confusion:

Currently there is a show called a Gypsy “National” Show that is not recognized by the GVHS. This show only allows horses that show within the Feathered Horse Classic shows. The GVHS feels this is not fair to all its members to recognize a championship show that is limited to only a small show circuit of shows to qualify. Because of this and the fact that it is not limited to Gypsy Vanners, the GVHS does not recognize a horse as a “national champion” based on this show. The GVHS cannot use its resources to promote a horse not registered with the GVHS or a non- member owner.  The GVHS does not recognize or count points for this show.

There is also a show called a “World” Gypsy and Drum Horse Show.   This show qualifies as a regular points qualifying show for the GVHS and the GVHS will include the show points from this show as published in the GVHS show points program. However, the GVHS cannot recognize or use its resources to promote any horse as a “world champion” for the same reason as previously stated.

The GVHS now has a Gypsy Vanner North American Championship Show being planned for 2020. The GVHS is happy to have a show management organization that is willing and able to put on an event of this magnitude for registered Gypsy Vanners.  The GVHS will be able to promote and recognize the champions from this event as Champion Gypsy Vanners. They will be promoted and recognized as North American Champions in the GVHS records for the horse, on the GVHS website and in the Vanner magazine. There are some exciting things being developed for this event that are soon to be announced. Watch for more news and announcements.

You can find all the points approved shows on the calendar and on the website list. New ones are being added for 2020 as we receive notification and approval.  The GVHS contributes thousands of dollars annually to these shows and other events.  Any questions contact the office at gvhs@vanners.org
