OT/PT Taking Shape

(Third in a Series)

Thank you for joining us again as we continue to tell the "Five Towns Premier Story" .  The  Premier, a new 280-bed Nursing and Rehabilitation Center continues to move towards its September 2017 completion date.  Upon its completion, the new building will be "The Premier" Senior Care Center on Long Island.
In previous issues, we focused on The Premier's ground breaking and its on-site Dialysis Center.  This month, we are highlighting its State of the Art Short Term Rehabilitation program.

Rehabilitation is literally The Premier's "middle name" and one of its lynch pin services.  Although
providing an array of outpatient and in-house specialty services, it is its Rehab and Cardio Rehab program s that will make The Premier a Center for Excellence For Physical and Occupational Therapy on Long Island.
The Premier's short term rehab program goes well beyond its state of the art health club style therapy suite. It starts with an experienced and capable staff working together with rehab residents to achieve one goal; getting residents strong, healthy and ready to resume an active life at home.
The residential pavilions will feature large, nicely appointed rooms where each resident has a private space and ample room for visitors and personal belongings.
The Premier's 71-bed second floor will be completely dedicated to short term rehabilitation and will include an on-unit satellite gym so residents can work out between scheduled therapy sessions.
All resident floors will have a variety of amenity spaces including central dining/recreation areas, multiple carpeted lounges with soft seating an d fireplaces, cozy seating nooks and private family dining grooms.  The Premier's digital media and WiFi systems will be available in all amenity areas as well as all resident rooms.
The center piece of The Premier's short term rehab program is its health club style gym which will house its Physical Therapy (PT) and Occupational Therapy (OT) programs.
The Rehab Suite will have sleek lines to convey a sense of positive energy and movement. Beneath this up-lifting aesthetic lies a cutting edge array of rehabilitation services.  On the OT side, the major focus is Activities of Daily Living training (ADL).  We have configured an ADL residential environment to help residents "re-learn" the skills they need to return home; getting in and out of bed, stepping into and out of a bathtub, reaching up into a kitchen cabinet or down into a dishwasher. This mock ADL apartment accelerates the return of ADL skills and gives residents the strength to return home with confidence.
Therapy Suite Interior Design
On the PT side of the gym, our approach was to
create several distinct functional zones brought together by a unifying style and aesthetic.  The "active" zone situated near windows has ample space for ambulation, exercise specific equipment and motor skills development.  The privacy zone is screened by other functions and contains space for hydrotherapy, electro-stimulus and thermotherapy. Plinths and mat tables will be located at the edge of the privacy zone for one on one therapy .  Staff support and clinical support spaces are centrally located within the suite to provide optimum visual observation an accessibility.

Thanks again for your continued interest in The Premier.  "Tune-in" again next month for another installment as this new state of the art nursing and rehabilitation center moves closer to completion.
