Dear friends,

Archbishop Schnurr and the Archdiocese of Cincinnati have issued updated statements regarding parish protocol in response to the recent developments with the COVID-19 virus. Please read the included letter from the Archbishop here: http://www.catholiccincinnati.org/about-us-2/archbishop/

Additional guidelines regarding best practices for ministers and those who assist with Mass are included below.

COVID-19 Response from Archdiocese of Cincinnati:
The health and well-being of everyone is the highest priority for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. We are following the directives of local, state and federal health authorities in establishing health and safety precautions throughout the archdiocese.
  • Catholics in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati are dispensed from their Sunday Mass obligation through the weekend of March 28-29.
  • Masses may be celebrated as currently scheduled with the following restrictions:
  1. No holding hands during the Our Father
  2. Suspension of exchange of a sign of peace
  3. No reception of Holy Communion from the chalice
  4. No reception of Holy Communion on the tongue
  • Holy water fonts in the church should be drained.
  • Unconsecrated bread and wine for Mass should be kept out of public areas.

Our current general precautions should continue to be followed, specifically:
  • Those who are sick, experiencing symptoms of illness, or are at risk should be strongly encouraged to not attend Mass and, out of charity to their brothers and sisters in Christ, remain at home.
  • Priests, deacons, and extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion should practice good hygiene, washing their hands thoroughly before Mass begins and, if possible, using an alcohol-based anti-bacterial solution discreetly before and after distributing Holy Communion.

Catholics who are not able to attend Sunday Mass can watch online if interested. Masses from the Cathedral of St. Peter in Chains will be live-streamed at catholiccincinnati.org on Saturdays at 4:30 p.m. and Sundays at 8:30 a.m., 11:00a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

A list of frequently asked questions about Worship in a Time of Public Health Concern can be found here: http://www.catholiccincinnati.org/worship-in-a-time-of-public-health-concern-coronavirus/

As of now, the evening Lenten Masses will continue, as will Stations of the Cross and 40 Hours.

We ask that for the sake of the community if you are showing signs of illness, you are strongly encouraged to stay at home. If you do not feel comfortable attending Mass, the Archbishop has dispensed you of your obligation until March 29th.

Above all, please pray for those who are ill and for the safety and well-being of our community. May we continue to trust in the Lord and ask for His guidance and peace.

Blessings to all,
