IMPORTANT NOTICE OF EVENT CHANGE
2020 SYMPOSIUM AND INFOMART
TO VIRTUAL CONTINUING EDUCATION
For OAO Members and pre-registered Symposium Delegates
April 30, 2020

On behalf of the Ontario Association of Optometrists and its members, we are providing notice of event change to you today.

The OAO In-Person Symposium and InfoMart originally scheduled for April 3 – 5, 2020 at the Toronto Sheraton Centre is now officially CANCELLED.

We want to sincerely thank delegates who left their registration in place for the postponed annual event, in particular for your patience waiting for this decision. This decision was not easy, nor made lightly.

It was our hope to still be able to host our event later in 2020. Several plans were pursued and investigated to be able to continue with a live event, but with the added uncertainty and challenges we all face resulting from COVID-19, this decision became the only responsible one we could make.

However, there is good news. Symposium registrants can still get the CE credits they planned to receive, and still get a partial refund of registration fees!

SAVE THE DATE:
FRIDAY MAY 22 & SATURDAY MAY 23, 2020
OAO 2020 LIVE VIRTUAL SYMPOSIUM

OAO is pleased to announce a 2-Day Live Virtual Symposium on May 22-23, 2020 . There will be 5 sessions each day, for a total of 10 Category A CE Credits.

Speakers previously committed to OAO’s live event are currently being scheduled for the upcoming virtual CE sessions and a full Schedule of Speakers and their Sessions will be posted shortly.

Importantly, OAO will also be hosting a Members’ Town Hall on Back-To-Work Strategies and is working to align CE on this important topic, more details to come.

To complete the 20 hours of CE originally planned for Symposium 2020, OAO will also be hosting a series of live one-hour virtual CE sessions in late May and throughout the month of June at varying times. The June Virtual Education Series will also be Category A CE and be available to all members in a Series package of 10-CE hours . At least half of these hours will be focused on back-to-work practice management and strategies for all optometrists—owners, associates, and independents alike. Optometric Assistants will also benefit greatly from this education. More information about the June Series will be made available in future communications.

All members are invited to participate in OAOs virtual CE. Members not previously registered for Symposium 2020 can purchase either or both of these CE Series’ for the low price of $250 for each 10-CE Session Series. Registration details will be available soon.

Pre-registered delegates
All delegates that previously paid registration fees for the 2020 Symposium are eligible to receive 20 total CE Credits PLUS a partial refund, based on what you previously paid. You are eligible for 10 Category A CE Credits at a virtual conference on May 22-23, PLUS 10 Category A CE Credits during the June Virtual Education Series, and you get a partial refund too!

The Optometric Assistants who pre-registered for the 2020 Symposium will remain eligible for the practice management education offered in the June Virtual Education Series, and are also eligible for a partial refund.

Please see the chart below that shows the refund you will receive if you previously paid Symposium registration fees.
Registration details, and speakers and session information for the May Virtual CE will be available very soon. Instructions about how pre-registered Symposium delegates can get their refunds and re-register for the OAO virtual CE in May and June will also be provided shortly.

Symposium 2021 : Our 2021 plans will be underway within the next few months, and we hope OAO can count on your continued participation for next year’s Symposium and InfoMart.

After a challenging time financially for all of us, and social distancing, it’s nice to look forward to networking and being together in the future. The 2021 event is scheduled for April 16 – 19 at the Toronto Sheraton Centre. We hope you will plan to join us!
