A NOTE FROM THE ORCAS CHAMBER:
The safety of our Orcas island community is our highest priority. In light of growing concerns about COVID-19, the Orcas Island Chamber of Commerce is encouraging visitors to postpone their travel plans to the island to limit the potential spread of the virus. Based on Washington State Governor Jay Inslee’s recommendations, and those of San Juan County officials, we are urging visitors and locals alike to practice social distancing and postpone non-essential travel. WSF SUSPENDS ALL FERRY TRAVEL TO CANADA

GALLEYS CLOSED ON WASHINGTON STATE FERRIES
In response to Gov. Inslee’s directive to help stop the spread of COVID 19, and to protect the health and safety of employees and customers, all galleys on Washington State Ferries will be closed.

WASHINGTON STATE FERRY PASSES
While WSF cannot extend the 90-day period for tickets and travel passes, customers who are unable to use tickets or travel passes because of COVID-19 concerns may be eligible for a refund for the unused portion of their fare. All refund requests can be submitted online. Please note that it may take longer than the typical 2-3 weeks to process your request due to higher volumes.

EDUCATION FOUNDATION HELPS FUND MEALS FOR CHILDREN
During this unprecedented time of school closure, the Orcas School District will be providing ALL children in our community with free breakfast and lunch during the school closure (with the exception of spring break). To help defray the cost of this program, the Orcas Island Education Foundation will match community donations to a new “School Food Fund” up to $5000.

I live in the Spring Point neighborhood in Deer Harbor, and we have a neighborhood online “bulletin board”. My wonderful neighbors have created a “Picker Uppers” list to group provisioning trips to Eastsound, and to deliver supplies to high-risk residents who should not be in public at all.

I can cook food on Saturdays for people in need. I would have to Limit the numbers but I could cook Saturday mornings and take to store for pick up @ 4 pm. Have extra plastic bags? If we could get people to use their plastic bags as stuffing to make beds for the homeless and I could get them covered.

KENMORE AIR UPDATE

MT BAKER FARM
Mount Baker Farm is open for disc golf only. We require people to call ahead so only one group at a time plays, and we are not renting discs. We are scheduled to open our campground in April currently, as Inslee is still allowing camping, but that may change.

NAPA IS OPEN
NAPA is currently open to the public with our regular hours. We ask that if you have symptoms to please not enter NAPA. You can call us at 360-376-4901 and we will work with you to take care of your needs and keep everyone safe.

FOOD BANK IS OPEN
The Food Bank is open regular hours, 12:30-2 pm Tuesday, 5:30-6:30 Thursday, 11-noon Saturday. Any island resident who needs food can come to the Food Bank. As an essential island service, we will not be closing.

ORCAS ISLAND POTTERY
We will close for two weeks per the governors request. If there are tourists, we can offer gloves and masks, and may try to go that way soon. For now we will reopen April 1.
