COLLABORATION
IPSO Workshop Highlights

The December IPSO workshop recorded the highest attendance in the program's history. This was the collaborative's seventh workshop and had 197 registrants. More than 30 hospitals presented their organizations' strategies at education sessions and small group breakouts. Highlights from the meeting include:

  • Review of IPSO results and progress on the five key processes
  • 16 posters outlining local efforts to improve sepsis care and treatment
  • A wide range of topics, including difficult IV access, strategies for staff education and team engagement, improving time to antibiotic, QI topics and a review of recent sepsis literature
  • Q&A discussions on managing EMR transitions, engaging patients and families, creating partnerships across siloed departments and more
  • Multiple networking opportunities for participants to learn from one another and share insights
INTERNATIONAL SPREAD
Sepsis Collaborative to Present at International Conference

IPSO collaborative representatives were invited to facilitate a pre-workshop session at the 6th International Conference on Healthcare Associated Infections held March 26-30, 2020.

The March 26 session will focus on methods for timely identification and management of sepsis in a variety of health care settings, and appropriate de-escalation of care to avoid health care associated infections. Interactive sessions allow attendees to learn from peers and develop strategies to improve identification of sepsis and de-escalation of sepsis care at their facilities. Full conference registration is required to attend.
PUBLICATIONS
New Pediatric Sepsis Guidelines

The Society of Critical Care Medicine is scheduled to release updated pediatric sepsis guidelines at their Annual Congress held Feb. 16-19. Members of the IPSO leadership group contributed to this important work. The IPSO collaborative will be well represented at the meeting with two abstracts accepted in the oral presentation format:

  • A Pediatric Sepsis Definition Designed for EHR Extraction and Multicenter Quality Improvement
  • Sepsis Outcomes in a Multicenter Children's Hospital Quality Improvement Collaborative
PARTNERSHIPS
Sepsis Alliance and CHA Educate Together

The Sepsis Alliance and Children's Hospital Association have formed a partnership to educate health providers on pediatric sepsis early recognition and treatment. Pediatric Learning Solutions, a CHA program, will work with The Sepsis Institute to supply current evidence-based practice content specific to sepsis. The first product of this partnership is an online training module for first responders .
