Key Takeaways For Next Week’s Construction Schedule Update (Concrete Construction Work - Week of October 9th):

  • October 9th – 13th:

Concrete Curb and Gutter Schedule Modification: Concrete Curb and Gutter Construction crews are now scheduled to be onsite October 9th through the 11th. Concrete crews will be working project wide to install curb & gutter, along with driveway aprons and driveway approaches in areas where existing concrete driveways were removed and where driveways intersect the sidewalk. Vehicle Staging will be required daily while concrete crews are onsite for residents living adjacent to Strawberry Lane and Peach Circle. Vehicle travel will be every slow and limited through the working area each day so please plan travel time accordingly. Driveway and resident vehicle access will be affected during concrete work. Concrete Crews will have substantial amounts of personnel, vehicles, and equipment onsite. Outside of Working hours, Parking along one side of the road will be necessary while concrete is curing for those living adjacent to Strawberry Lane and Peach Circle. Curing time is 7 days from the date of installation. When the Concrete curing time is completed, the contractor will begin ramping gravel up to the curb lip to restore access to those affected. Upon completion, The Roadway Contractor will begin removing the excess gravel in Strawberry Court in preparation for pavement. Resident access will be maintained in Strawberry Court and Alexander Lane. If you live in Strawberry Court or Alexander Lane plan to give yourselves 10-15 minutes of extra travel time to come in and out of the neighborhood as equipment will be active in the area.

WHILE CONCRETE CREWS ARE ONSITE EACH DAY VEHICLE STAGING WILL BE REQUIRED BEGINNING TUESDAY OCTOBER 10th:

Strawberry Lane Residents:

During Working Hours 7AM-7PM: Please plan to stage your vehicles in the school overflow parking lot, Along Shorewood Oaks Drive, or along the North side of 62nd street while crews are onsite.

Outside of Working Hours: Please plan to stage your vehicles along the West side of the road outside of working hours while concrete is curing.

Peach Circle Residents:

During Working Hours 7AM-7PM: Please plan to stage your vehicles in the school overflow parking lot, Alexander Lane, or in areas along Strawberry Court where curbing has not been removed. Once Curbing has been completed in Peach Circle, you may leave your vehicles in front of your driveways during working hours, but neighborhood access will be slow/limited while crews are onsite.

Outside of Working hours: Please plan to park your vehicles along the South Side of Peach Circle while concrete is curing.

If all concrete work is not completed during the days provided above, Concrete Crews will return Friday the 13th to finish remaining items. Any Remaining sidewalk that is not completed during this time is scheduled to be completed after the roadway corridor is paved.

  • When Concrete Crews are pouring up to existing curb and sidewalk along Smithtown Rd, minor traffic delays may occur momentarily. Please note that delays will be brief during these operations.
  • Please remind guests, visitors, or your contractors to travel slowly and cautiously through the site.

 FAQ & Project Related Topics:

1) Completion Outlook: As many of you know, the Strawberry Lane Reconstruction Project to was scheduled to begin in the Spring of 2023. Due to recurring and Self- Inflicted scheduling conflicts on behalf of some of the Private Utility companies that provide service to residential homes in the neighborhood, construction startup was delayed almost 3 months. Currently, the construction project is behind schedule by about 7 weeks from the originally projected time of completion. Aside from just pavement and curb being installed, there are other miscellaneous construction activities that need to take place before the roadway can be open to through traffic. As Roadway Construction continues to progress, the roadway is scheduled to be open to traffic late October. Meanwhile, access will be restricted to local residents only.

2) Water Service Hook Ups:  For those residents who are interested in the connection to City Water, please follow the link provided to the city’s website:

3) Turf Restoration: Turf Restoration is scheduled to take place after the roadway is paved and general pavement and concrete repairs are completed. In the meantime, crews will be slowly excavating and removing miscellaneous debris and excess soils from the boulevard area as the road section construction is being completed. Turf Seeding will take place this fall, but final turf seeding and touch ups will take place in the Spring of 24’.

4) Tree Planting: Tree planting handouts will be provided in the coming weeks as the city is working on a supplier list of available trees for order.

5) Irrigation Repair: Irrigation Repairs will come after the curb/ concrete work is completed.

6) Topsoil Installation: Not all current Boulevard conditions are finalized yet. Boulevard cleanup and imported topsoil will come in turn after curb is installed.

7) Sidewalk Installation: Sidewalk is still anticipated to be completed this fall. Driveway aprons adjacent to the sidewalk will be prioritized prior to the completion of the entire sidewalk.

Other Important Reminders to note:

  • Please label your garbage cans with your address written on duck tape so that crews may be able to move garbage and recycling cans for pickup on days where the roadway will not be passable. We ask that you set these cans out on Tuesday afternoon/evening so that crews can quickly move them to available pick up locations outside of the working area.

  • Please remove any landscape items that you would like to save that are within the city Right of way area.

  • Temporary Mailboxes are installed and located along the North side of Shorewood Oaks Dr near the intersection of Strawberry Ln and Shorewood Oaks Dr. this includes Mailboxes for all residents living on the Strawberry Lane project and adjacent roadways. To alleviate congestion, ensure mail delivery is not missed, and provide safety measures, it has been placed just outside of the construction. See the attached Image of the location:
