Important Traffic Safety Follow-Up

Dear Andros Isle Community Residents,

This email is a follow-up to the January 8 Property Owners Association (POA) meeting, where we discussed the Flashing Yellow Arrow (FYA) for left turns from Okeechobee Boulevard onto Andros Isle that the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) installed on May 8.

Thanks to all who attended. For those who did not attend, here’s a quick recap of that meeting:

  • More than a hundred of you came out, and many of you shared your thoughts and experiences.
  • Towards the end of the meeting, the POA board (the board) passed a resolution requesting the FYA to be removed.

Watch a video summary of the event here or by clicking the image below.

Here’s what happened since:

The board sent a copy of the resolution to the County Engineer, who, based upon the resolution, recommended to FDOT that the FYA be removed.

We are awaiting FDOT’s response and I am hopeful that they do not object to the removal of the FYA, reverting the eastbound left turn signal to protected-only during all hours.

I appreciate all of your thoughtful comments.

As you know, I feel strongly that FDOT should have sought input from the residents impacted (you!) prior to implementing changes. Though that did not happen at first, I’m happy that FDOT has been responsive since.

Please don’t ever hesitate to contact my office if you have questions, need help or want to share your thoughts. Email: district2@pbc.gov, or phone: (561) 355-2202.

Best,

Gregg
