Guidance for Families on Immigration Concerns

Dear MSCS Parents and Guardians,

As our city experiences ongoing changes and as families express growing concerns about safety and support, we want to share an updated Parents’ Immigration Rights Guide to assist and inform you during this time.

First and foremost, we want to reassure you that as of Wednesday, November 5, 2025, no MSCS school has reported any type of immigration enforcement activity on school grounds. Likewise, the District has not received notice of any planned enforcement actions. While we continue to monitor the broader situation across the city, we want to remain transparent about what is happening, or not happening, on our campuses.

MSCS is deeply committed to protecting the civil and privacy rights of all students. Our District has established a clear protocol that provides every school with direct access to MSCS Legal Services should immigration enforcement agencies visit or make contact. Principals have received detailed guidance outlining how to respond to such situations, ensuring that no agency is granted access to students or confidential student information without the proper legal authority.

MSCS proudly welcomes all students and remains committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment, regardless of national origin, immigration status, or citizenship status.

We encourage you to review our Parents’ Immigration Rights Guide*, developed in partnership with community organizations, to help families access trustworthy information and available support.

**Disclaimer: Please note that the Guide includes links to several federal government websites that may not be updated or maintained at this time due to the current government shutdown. As a result, Memphis-Shelby County Schools cannot guarantee the accuracy, availability, or timeliness of the information provided on those external sites. We encourage families to verify details directly with local community partners whenever possible.

Please continue investing in your child’s education by ensuring they attend school regularly and with peace of mind, knowing that MSCS has strong protocols in place to support every student.

If you have any questions, please reach out to your child’s principal.
