A big thank you to all clubs and organizations who provided training opportunities during the school pause. These programs offered athletes valuable physical activity and support for their well-being during a challenging time. With school volleyball now fully resumed, please be aware that School Sport Alberta’s eligibility rules are once again in effect.
Senior Varsity High School Athletes
Athletes on these teams fall under School Sport Alberta’s Non-School Team Policy. Student-athletes who participate with non-school teams before November 29 will be ruled ineligible for School Sport Alberta volleyball competition. To maintain eligibility, athletes on senior varsity high school teams should not participate in club indoor team training while school volleyball is active.
Athletes in all other school contexts
There is no provincial organizing body for other levels of school sports. Policies may vary by district, and families are encouraged to confirm any local requirements with the school’s athletic director.
General Reminder
Volleyball club programming is often more comprehensive than just indoor competitive teams. This may include skill development programs, private training, strength and conditioning, and position-specific training.
Families should refer to athlete development principles when making choices with their children. Clubs should be deliberate with any indoor volleyball programming offered during the summer and fall. School volleyball places large demands on athletes and additional training may place athletes in a position to develop overuse injuries and burnout.
Upcoming VA Timelines
• The 12U Signing Period runs November 2–9, 2025
• Winter Tryout Process for all other age groups begins November 30, 2025
• Athletes who have already signed an LOI are committed to that club for the season and are not permitted to attend tryouts
