Dear Saint Christopher Academy Families,

We are writing to inform you of an upcoming important update to our student email usernames that will help better organize our digital communications and prepare students for their academic journey. These changes will apply to veteran student emails only. New students will receive their email and password once school begins.

What's Changing?

Beginning Wednesday, August 20, all student email usernames will include their 8th grade graduation year to help identify class cohorts and improve school communications. For example:

Current Username: jsmith@saintchrisacademy.org

New Username: jsmith2028@saintchrisacademy.org (where 2028 is the 8th grade graduation year)

Timeline:

  • Tomorrow, August 19: Student email and Google accounts will be unavailable as we migrate accounts.
  • Wednesday, August 20:  New usernames become active for veteran students. Students must use these to log into all Google services, including email.
  • Week of Monday, August 25: All new upper campus students will receive their username and password during computer class.
  • September 2025: Lower campus students will receive their username and password during computer class later in the month after receiving instruction on how to log in to their Google account. Parents will be informed when their child has received this information.

What You Need to Do:

  1. Help Your Child Practice Logging In: The new username will be used for ALL Google services (Email, Google Classroom, Google Drive, etc.).
  2. Update Your Contacts: Please update your personal contact lists with your child's new username.
  3. Assist with Login Practice: Help your child practice logging into Google Classroom and other school platforms with their new username.

IMPORTANT: Login Changes

Starting Wednesday, August 10, your child MUST use their new username to log into:

  • Email
  • Google Classroom
  • Google Drive
  • Any other school-sanctioned Google apps
  • School Chromebooks

The old username will continue to receive messages after the transition, but cannot be used for logging in.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: Will my child lose any existing emails or files?

A: No, all emails, files, and Google Drive documents will remain in the same account. Only the username is changing.

Q: What if someone emails the old username?

A:  The old email address becomes an email alias, which means emails sent to the old address will automatically be delivered to your child's inbox. The old address doesn't disappear - it just becomes a secondary way to reach the same account. However, your child must use the NEW username to log into all Google services, including email.

Q: Do passwords change?

A: No, passwords remain exactly the same. Only the username (email address) is changing.

Q: What about students who haven't reached 8th grade yet?

A: All students, from Pre-K through 8th grade, will receive usernames based on their projected 8th grade graduation year.

Q: What if my child uses educational apps or websites that require their school email to log in?

A: Most school-integrated applications will automatically update. However, some third-party educational websites may require you to update the login credentials with the new username.

Thank you for your patience during this transition. Please feel free to respond to this email with any questions!
