Update on CAN's Food Security Efforts
Dear Friends,

In light of the various school and other agency closures, Community Action Network's top priority is ensuring that our students and families have ample access to food. With community support, CAN plans to maintain our regularly scheduled food security programs, as well as safely distributing take-home meals for under-resourced youth and families.

We will be taking additional precautions to make these distributions as safe as possible, including operating with limited staff and volunteers, minimizing social gathering, and maintaining extra-diligent sanitation practices. Although CAN's After School Programs are canceled, all food programs with the exception of CAN's Mitchell Elementary Market will remain open. Thanks to the incredible support and collaboration with Food Gatherers, CAN will also be able to adjust food orders and increase deliveries to help fill more of the community need. However, we know that there will be a significant strain on our capability to sustain these efforts for the extended period notably with students out of school. We could use your help now more than ever!

How you can help?

Additional local and state efforts to address food security challenges in our community are being planned and we will do our best to send updates. It is undoubtedly clear that our current resources will be woefully insufficient and any support shared with the community's food security partners whether or not it be CAN is greatly appreciated!

Thank you for being a big part of what makes Washtenaw County amazing and supporting our neighbors. For more information on how to get involved, please email info@canannarbor.org.

Thank you and stay safe,
Derrick Miller, Executive Director
