Fullerton College
A memo from the Office of the President
Spring Semester Update
Dear Students,

Due to the unfortunate surge Orange County is experiencing from the highly transmittable nature of the Omicron variant, Fullerton College will start the Spring Semester with mostly remote classes and services through February 4.

City and county cases started spiking at the end of December 2021 and are now at an all-time high of 108 cases per 100,000 people. The good news is that the variant appears to be more contagious but less severe. Health officials are projecting that the number of cases caused by Omicron should decline by the beginning of February.

Spring Classes
Many spring classes are already offered remotely, and we are working to move as many of the face-to-face classes to Zoom until Feb. 4. Classes moved to Zoom will be offered at the same time and day that they would have been offered in-person. Students who are scheduled to take in-person classes will be contacted by their faculty member through email and/or Canvas. Students should be notified no later than January 21, 2022. If you don’t hear from your instructor, please call 714-992-7000 for assistance during normal business hours.

The current goal is to minimize as many people on campus as possible for the next three weeks; however, some exceptions will be given in Physical Education, Fine Arts, Technology and Engineering, and Natural Sciences, where hands-on learning cannot be replicated through remote instruction. Your professor will be in contact with you if your class will move to Zoom.

Student Support Services
Select on-campus services will be offered when the semester starts such as: free daily hot meals, the food bank, library curbside service, laptop pick-up, and the Bookstore will have limited hours. Free PCR COVID-19 testing is currently available Monday-Friday and will continue throughout the semester.

The majority of student services will be offered remotely through Feb. 4. Beginning Feb. 7, most student support service areas will provide a combination of in-person and remote support Monday through Thursday. On Fridays and select Saturdays, remote services will be provided. The Return to the Hive website and online college directory will be updated to reflect these hours of operation, which include a number of Saturdays during the Spring term.

COVID-19 Safety
All students taking classes in-person or accessing services on-campus are required to visit the health check-in area located in Building 1000, Room 1018 where they are screened for COVID-19 symptoms. Students must be in compliance with the NOCCCD vaccine mandate to take classes in-person and receive services on-campus. Those who have approved exemptions, must test weekly for COVID-19 starting Jan. 24.

Ongoing Communications
Many adjustments are currently being made across campus to temporarily move in-person classes online and prepare for an extension of remote services. We will provide continuous communications to students through email, social media, the website, Canvas, campus signage, phone banking and our high-touch student support programs.

Thank you for your patience and perseverance. At Fullerton College, we are committed to helping you advance your educational goals. Your health and safety are our No. 1 priorities, and we will get through this together.

With appreciation,

Gilbert J. Contreras, Ph.D.
Interim President
