McKenzie Families,

It has been a wonderful first week of school. It was so great to see everyone back on campus!

We are expecting some extreme temperatures in the coming days. We are aware of and have contingency plans in place in the event of a power outage due to the Red Flag Warning our area will be experiencing tomorrow and Saturday.

We will continue to monitor any changes in the forecast and directives from state and local authorities.

Should power be disrupted, students may need to be sent home early. We will follow up to advise of any changes.

We recognize that news of this forecast can be unsettling for so many in our community. Please continue to plan, support one another and stay safe.

Early Dismissal

Our first early dismissal day of the year is coming up next Thursday, September 15. If you are in need of after-school care for your student on early release days, please email Niki Jones at:

We will provide after-school childcare from 2:50 pm - 4:30 pm. Families using this option will need to pick up their student at the school by 4:30 pm as we are unable to transport students home at this time.

We are very appreciative of this time to collaborate as a staff in order to best support all of our students.

Childcare Center:

We are also excited to announce that through generous philanthropic funds we can remodel an existing space to create a childcare center for children ages 3 months to 6 years.

This space will also be the home to the Little Eagles Preschool program.

The plan is to have the center open in early 2023, with more information to come in the next couple of months.

As a new center and program, the district is seeking parent input and involvement in the process. If you are interested in joining the Early Childhood Parent Involvement committee, please contact Lacey Joy at for more information.

  • Due to severe fire conditions, we feel it is in our community's and school's best interest to postpone our BBQ at Friday night's football game.

Important Dates to Remember:

  • Fri, September 9: School In Session
  • Thur, September 15: First early release day
  • Tue, September 20: Health screening day

Health and Safety Updates
As a district, we have enrolled in the OHA/UO COVID-19 Screening Testing Program this year. This is an optional, weekly saliva test via a take-home test kit.

If you would like to participate, please sign up by completing these two steps:

STEP 1: Complete the UO K-12 Student Information Survey at The registration survey can be viewed in English or Spanish. We have a rolling enrollment; students can sign up anytime. Testing can begin about 1-2 weeks after student sign-up begins.

STEP 2: Complete and return the OHA Consent Form. This form is required for all participating students and must be completed and returned to the school at the program's start. Your school can provide a printed copy at test pick-up if you do not have a printer. Schools are required by OHA to retain these consent forms.

If you have already signed up, welcome to the program, and thank you for your patience as we determine the best way to support this program at our school.

Students can sign up any time; enrollment lists are updated every week.

Please contact if you have any questions or if you need assistance.

2022-23 Calendar Adopted- Changes
Here's a look at our full calendar year with a couple of key changes noted below.

  • The number of school days will remain the same at 149 student days.
  • Most all student half days will be eliminated.
  • MS/HS Class periods will be reduced from 55 mins to 52 mins on those days.
  • Instructional hours will only be slightly impacted with a 2-hour overall reduction from the 2021-2022 calendar.
School Supplies

Thanks to the generous donation from The Mohawk-McKenzie Grange and the Hope Project, we were able to waive the elementary school supply fee this year! Students will be provided with all necessary school supplies.

Middle and high school students will also benefit from donations but their full supply lists can be found here.

Check out this wonderful story on the Hope Project and their supply donation to our teachers and staff here!
Construction Update
Construction Update:
As you arrive on campus, you will notice that construction is still happening. We ask that all students be dropped off at the High School's front door and for all non-district/construction staff vehicles to remain in the front parking lot. You will not be able to drive around the Elementary Building due to construction.

Due to the construction, middle and high school lockers will be assigned during the first week of school. Chromebooks will also be handed out at this time.
