A Message from Pastor Tom...
This past Sunday, we toured historic Salem Church. After 118 years, that venerable structure is showing some definite signs of aging. Yet, as those doors to the sanctuary were opened, there was an indescribable sense that we were entering a very sacred space. We know that God is present to us always and everywhere, but why is that space so seemingly sacred? Sacred in its most basic interpretation means connected to God. Defined, illumined, and utilized for God’s mission in the world. Within Salem’s aging walls, babies were baptized, couples exchanged marriage vows, loved ones were memorialized, and grieving families were reminded of the Resurrection promise of our Lord and Redeemer. Old Salem Church has been shuttered for over 12 years. So perhaps it is not a place that is sacred; it is the people. Now that is genuinely Good News.
