Announcing a New Clinical Pathway for Physical Abuse Evaluation
We're excited to announce the development of a new Physical Abuse Evaluation Clinical Pathway, a resource designed to standardize and enhance the assessment of child physical abuse across our network. This pathway provides clear guidance for clinicians evaluating patients with concerning histories or physical exam findings, such as unexplained bruising in nonmobile infants, head trauma, burns, or fractures. By focusing on high-risk clinical presentations and screening for clinically unsuspected injuries, the pathway aims to improve diagnostic accuracy and reduce the risk of missed diagnoses, especially in vulnerable populations like infants under six months of age.
This new pathway is designed to support you in delivering equitable and standardized care. It offers essential resources and recommendations to help you navigate sensitive conversations with families and fulfill mandatory reporting requirements with confidence. By adopting this standardized approach, we can collectively work to minimize variations in practice, reduce the impact of implicit biases, and ultimately improve outcomes for our most vulnerable patients. We encourage you to familiarize yourself with this valuable new tool, which is now available for your use.
