Catholic Charities COVID-19 Update
Thank you to all those who have contributed during this uncertain time. You have enabled Catholic Charities Indianapolis to continue meeting the needs of our clients! Here is an update on how our programs are currently operating as the state and city begin to reopen.

  • The Crisis Office - The food pantry is serving about 150 households a week. Applications for financial assistance with housing, utilities, medication and transportation are available. The Crisis Office is not currently collecting or distributing clothing.
  • Holy Family Shelter and Holy Family Transitional Services - The shelter is working remotely with residents residing in extended-stay hotels or with family and friends. We are helping families find housing through rapid re-housing programs. The shelter is beginning to take on new homeless families and a few are residing in the shelter. The summer camp program has been revised to accommodate COVID-19 protocols.
  • Individual, Couple and Family Counseling - Catholic Charities continues to provide accessible and affordable mental health counseling services through telehealth (video) and telephone. The Franciscan Health and IU Health Morgan offices are not offering face-to-face appointments at this time.
  • Senior Programming and Services - All Senior Service Programs are keeping a close eye on the amount of anxiety and/or depression that seniors are experiencing due to isolation.
  • A Caring Place Adult Day Service re-opened on June 8. Social distancing and personal protection equipment protocols for staff, clients and volunteers are strictly enforced. Transportation is provided following social distancing and health and safety protocols.
  • Caregiver Support is contacting and assisting caregivers during the quarantine. Staff is making sure they have enough food and checking on medical needs and answering questions.
  • Senior Companion Program & RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) Staff is staying in touch with both the clients and the companions. Programs are still closed.
  • Refugee and Immigration Services - Refugee program case managers are keeping in touch with all refugee families that arrived in the past year to ensure their needs are being met. Immigration services staff are helping clients with DACA, Family Reunification, Adjustment of Legal Status, Employment Authorization and Naturalization Application Assistance. Citizen Classes are not currently being offered.
  • School Social Work Program - Staff is providing telehealth for struggling students and parents in need of support. Staff is also working with principals and school staff to offer students and families resources on coping skills during the pandemic.
  • St. Elizabeth/Coleman Pregnancy and Adoption Services - Basic needs such as diapers, formula and baby clothes are being provided to families. Clients call in advance to make a request and get assigned a pickup time for their requested items.
