Dear Summer Camp Families,

Thank you for your patience as we work to create a fun and safe summer camp experience for our campers and staff. At this time, we are still planning to offer several of our camps this summer: Discovery, Explorer and Adventure. We also have made the decision to cancel the following camps: Apple Seeds, Little Sprouts, Crossroads, Gymnastics, Dance, Cheer, Cook, Big Top Y, Splash and Sports Unlimited. It was a difficult decision, but due to new guidelines and capacity, we are working in the best interest of our campers, families and staff.

If your child was enrolled in any of the canceled camps, you can opt to receive a refund, a credit or to donate your deposits. Please fill out the form here to let us know your choice. We ask that you please fill out the form by June 5. Please fill out one form per child.

We apologize for any inconvenience the cancellation of our preschool, enrichment and Crossroads Camps has on your family. The last thing we at the Y want to do is cause any more stress during this already stressful time.
Our camp team has been working closely with experts in the camping field and Y-USA on ways to safely run camp this summer.  Y-USA has been working with the American Camping Association and CDC and together they have hired Environmental Health and Engineering (EH&E), to work on safety procedures and protocols.  Your child's health and safety is our main priority.

Our intention right now is to move forward with our Discovery, Explorer and Adventure Camps with modifications to meet state health and safety regulations.  However, we are still waiting on the go ahead to run any of our camps from the state and for the most up-to-date guidelines.
In moving forward with our camp plans, we need to know if your camper will be attending summer camp at our Y by Friday, June 5.  If he/she is enrolled in any weeks of Discovery, Explorer, or Adventure Camps, please let us know whether you intend to send your child to camp or if you choose to opt out. Please complete  this form   by June 5  to let us know your decision. If you choose to opt-out, you can also use this form to request a credit or refund for your deposit,  but you must let us know by June 5 . You can also choose to convert your deposit to a tax-deductible donation to support the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA.  Please fill out one form per child.
As mentioned, camp will look and feel different this year to help us comply with regulations and create a safe experience for all.

Changes include:

  • Each camp day will run from 9am-4pm (no pre or post camp will be held).
  • There is only a 5-day camp option (3 days is no longer available).
  • Swimming will not be held to maintain social distancing between children and staff.
  • There will be no camp trips off-site this summer.
  • Camp will not include any special guest speakers.
  • As of now, all camps will be held at our main Y building at 1340 Martine Avenue in Scotch Plains.
  • Social distancing strategies will be implemented to maximize space between people.
  • Each child and staff member will undergo a health screening upon entry, including a temperature check. Those experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 - fever 100.4 or higher, cough or shortness of breath, etc. - will not be permitted to attend camp until symptom free for 72 hours (we are working on camp documentation for families with further information).
  • If there is a confirmed case of COVID-19 at our facility, we will contact the Health Department regarding next steps and may temporarily close for 14 days.
  • There will be a designated drop-off/pick-up location for camp with parents/caregivers restricted from entering camp areas.
  • We will be updating our cleaning and disinfecting procedures and increasing their frequency throughout the day.
  • All campers will be asked to utilize hygiene practices, such as frequent hand washing throughout the day.
We know that sending your child to camp this summer is a big decision for many families and one not to be taken lightly . If you have any further questions, we will do our best to answer them at this time. Please reach out to James McManus at or Kourtni Fortune at .

We are continuously monitoring CDC and state guidelines and working with state agencies and national camp experts to help us create a new, enjoyable camp experience. Once again, we appreciate your patience and your friendship. Camp is always a highlight for us each year, and we hope that remains for 2020.

Thank you and please be on the look out for further communications from us soon.
