Winter Weather Information
Fairfax County is under a winter storm watch, with accumulations of snow and ice expected to fall Wednesday morning through late Wednesday evening. Today is a good day to fill up on gas, charge your electronic devices, and check on elderly neighbors before this week's snow storm. There is a high likelihood of power outages with this storm due to the potential for wet snow and ice.
Below I have also included some important links and phone numbers in the event of emergencies. You may want to print this and keep in an accessible location. Currently, we are forecasted to get between 3 and 7 inches of snow between Wednesday morning and Wednesday evening, but we could get more or less. Conditions are expected to vary widely across the County depending on where the rain snow line falls.

Three recommendations during inclement weather:
Be prepared to take care of yourself and your family for at least three days in case roads are blocked and/or there are power outages. Make sure you have a three-day supply of food that does not require electricity to prepare, and a gallon of water for each person for each day.
Have a battery powered and/or hand crank radio and extra batteries for emergency information. Listen to local weather forecasts and instructions from county or state officials.
It is helpful to clean-up crews that plow our roads if you can park your vehicles in your driveways. If you must park on the road - park on the side of the road with the odd numbers so plows can clear most of the road.
Schools
This year, the school system will provide additional approaches for observing “snow days” during the inclement weather season that may include synchronous instruction (teacher-led) and asynchronous instruction (independent). If conditions are warranted, they anticipate that there will be “typical” snow days as in non-pandemic years. The school system will evaluate the situation and notify residents as they have in the past through the FCPS website, Twitter, Facebook, email, text messages, and the local media.

If your power goes out, please use your smartphone to go

Downed power lines should be immediately reported by contacting NOVEC at 703-335-0500.
Stay away from downed lines and anything touching them, and please report them immediately to your power company.
